Utica Zoo launches free online kids academy
Observer-Dispatch - 3/23/2020
The Utica Zoo has launched a new program to make the best of its temporary closure due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The zoo Monday launched Uti-kaZoo, a free online kids academy designed for children in pre-school and elementary school levels. The academy offers activity-based programs such as showing animals in action, stories and do-at-home items.
These learning tools are designed to heighten awareness about environmental conservation, according to the zoo.
New programs will be posted Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while additional posts, activities and animal stories will be featured Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Uti-kaZoo activities can be found online at uticazoo.org/kazoo or on the zoo's social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
As Gov. Andrew Cuomo has put out directives regarding workplaces and industries during the outbreak, the Utica Zoo is classified among New York's essential businesses. And though on-grounds programs and events have been suspended temporarily, the Utica Zoo has animal care and facilities department staff on the grounds daily, according to the zoo.
